In the past three days, three persons have been cheated by the gang of three active in the state capital; a minor boy with a man and woman ganged-up and cheat elderly women of jewelry and valuables.
In the latest fraud of the series an 80-year-old retired woman doctor was duped by the gang at Malviya Nagar.
ASI Rajendra Mishra said that Ishwariya Devnani lives in Anjali Apartment, Tulsi Nagar and is a retired doctor. She went to the market to buy goods on Tuesday.
The woman was standing near the Malviya Nagar stand, when a 13-year-old child came. He was hungry, give some money. After a while he said that he is a delivery boy and got a packet full of money and when it was opened, Rs 500 currency notes were found. The child told the woman that he was scared and she should keep this money and give jewelry as a guarantee.
During this a man and woman came and asked the victim to provide money and take theri jewellery also. The elderly woman gave two gold bangles, two gold rings and a gold pendant to the gang and left with the stack of currency.
Later on checking only the upper Rs 500 note was found to be real while others were pieces of papers. After this the woman went to the police station and reistered the case.
Earlier on January 16, an old woman was targeted by the gang near Hamidia hospital and around 2 hours after this, another woman who had come to Bairagarh to fix the jewelery was targeted.
