While talking to the media persons here on Wednesday, Society’s Honorary Secretary and Retina and laser Specialist Dr Gajendra Chawla told that BDOS would organize an eye check-up and awareness camp on January 8 for the patients of diabetes as the number of patients of diabetes is increasing continuously. Around 10 to 12 per cent people of the country are suffering from diabetes. According to World Health Organization (WHO), India would be known as the capital of diabetes in few years.

Chawla said that diabetes adversely affects various parts of the body of the patients. Diabetes also affects the eyes of the patients but the patients should not be scared of it as most of these problems or diseases are curable. There are various new techniques these days, which are very helpful in the eye treatment. “My Vision Academy is spreading awareness regarding the diabetes among the patients,” he added.

Chawla further said that the eye of a diabetes patient could be treated through laser, injections or through retinopathy operation. Eyes are the most sensitive part of the body hence regular eye check-ups is recommended specially for the diabetes patients. Blindness among the diabetes patients could be cured through ‘early diagnosis and prompt treatment’, he added.
