Four girl students and a lecturer of RKDF College were arrested on Thursday on the charge of abetment to suicide of an 18-year-old girl student of the same college.
The senior students, identified as Nidhi, Dipti, Divyanshi and Preeti and faculty member Manish Gupta, who were named in the suicide note by victim Aneeta Sharma, were produced in a district court on Thursday. The court sent the offenders to judicial custody for 14 days.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl SP) Dilip Singh Tomar told media persons that all the five persons were arrested on the charge of abetment to suicide, he added.
Earlier in the morning, Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta visited the residence of the victim to console the grieving family members and directed the police to take immediate action against those whose names were mentioned in the suicide note.
The Home Minister also instructed that strict action be taken against the college management. He asked that a meeting of anti-ragging committee be held. Gupta asked the parents to tell their children not to be part of such illegal activities as ragging, otherwise, strict action would be taken. Besides, the students subjected to ragging should immediately inform the college management.Taking prompt action in the case, the police within few hours registered an FIR and arrested all the five accused in the case.
Notably, Aneeta, a student of B Pharma had committed suicide by hanging at her residence. She had left a suicide note, purportedly written by her, blaming her four seniors and the faculty member for the suicide.
According to the note, the girl’s seniors had been allegedly ragging her since she got admission in the college. They forced her to write their mid-semester copies and when she brought this to the notice of faculty member Manish Gupta, he asked her to obey her seniors if she wanted to continue in the college.
later, when the seniors came to know about her complaint, they started harassing her further and threatened to throw acid on her and rape her, the suicide note said.
