Forest Minister Sartaj Singh has extended greetings and best wishes on the occasion of Holi. In his greeting message, he appealed to people to use minimum possible wood and not to cause damage to green trees for Holika Dahan.

Singh said, “Holi holds a special importance among Indian festivals. Wood is used in Holika Dahan in villages and all places in cities.” He said it is the need of the hour that this ritual is observed symbolically. We can protect and develop forests only though minimum use of wood.

While extending greetings and best wishes of Holi to people of the state, Minister of State for Forests Jaisingh Marawi has urged them to celebrate it harmoniously. Marawi urged people to use minimum wood in Holika Dahan and use only agricultural waste and useless wood for it.

Marawi said, “Shortage of trees has affected global environment. The problem has been made more complex due to increasing gap between supply and demand of forest produce.” Therefore, forests can be saved only through cooperation of common people.

Meanwhile, the MP Power Management Company, Eastern, Central and Western Region Power Distribution Companies and Power Transmission Company have issued an advisory to power consumers and common people should not burn Holika underneath electricity lines. The companies have appealed that Holika should not be burnt underneath

electricity lines since this poses danger of grave accidents. All energy sector companies have urged urban and rural consumers to perform Holika Dahan at some distance away from electricity lines since there are possibilities of melting and snapping of wires made of aluminium.

Melting and falling of live electricity wires may cause unprecedented and major accidents. Therefore, the companies have urged consumers and common people to burn Holika away from electricity lines and equipments.
