Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday termed that the Food Security Bill was an election legerdemain of the Centre.
Tomar in a statement here said that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government was using the Food Security Bill as the election legerdemain at the place of national commitment. The Congress was doing mere showoff in the Parliament at the place of doing debate over all aspects of the Food Security Bill, due to that neither the basic points related with the bill could be discussed nor are the ruling party and the opposition are reaching over consensus over it, he added.
Tomar further said that due to opposition within the Government the Centre could not brought up the Food Security Bill in the Parliament for discussion during the last session that was rocked with coal gate and rail gate and other corruption issues. In this session also the Centre despite making all out efforts could not succeed in agreeing the opposition for debate over the Food Security Bill, he added.
He added that the Food Security is a national commitment. The standing committee of the Parliament has said that for implementing this law over 7.5 crore tonne food-grains would be required and the maximum quantity of food grains collected by States and centre was 7 tonne only. In these circumstances neither the Central Government has made any attempts for arranging the extra required food grains nor did it make any provisions in the budget for the same. If the bill is imposed forcibly for gaining political mileage without giving due considerations than the Congress might get political benefit from it but the people of the country would not get anything out of it, he added. He said that for completing the target of distribution of food grains the centre would also compel to import food grains.
