The tunes of Rajasthan and the overwhelming performance by the nationally renowned Kalbelia dancer Gulabo Sapera was all about a delightful Sunday evening at Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum.

Notably, the noted Rajasthani folk dancer Gulabo Sapera gave a splendid performance along with her troupe on Sunday at Tribal museum. She performed under the Uttaradhikari series of classical performances organised at Tribal Museum. She performed the Kalbelia dance with beautiful moves leaving the audience totally enthralled.

Notably, the Kalbelia dance, performed to celebrate any joyful moment in the community, is an integral part of Kalbelia culture. The dance and songs are a matter of pride and a marker of identity for the Kalbelias and they represent the creative adaptation of this community of snake charmers to changing socioeconomic conditions and their own role in rural Rajasthani society.

The dancers wear flowing black skirts who dance and swirl, replicating the movements of a serpent. These cloths are mixed in red and black hues and embroidered in such a way that when these dancers perform these clothes represent a combination of colours soothing to eyes as well as to the atmosphere.

The dance is made even more worthwhile watching with the music instruments they use. Instruments such as the pungi, the dufli, been, the khanjari - a percussion instrument, morchang, khuralio and the dholak to created the rhythm on which the dancers performed enthusiastically.

They presented the dance over the songs that are based on stories taken from folklore and mythology and special dances are performed during Holi.

As the drum beat increases, the tempo gets faster and faster, leaving the dancers exhausted and the viewers in absolute awe.
