Fire in records room in city's Collectorate

Several documents were destroyed in a fire which broke out in the record room of the Collectorate in the State Capital here on Sunday.

On receipt of information four fire tender vehicles reached the spot and took around an hour to douse the fire. Records of land and revenue were damaged in the fire and the officials have claimed that the exact loss of the records could be ascertained after the remaining records are checked.

Fire officials have claimed that the fire broke out due to short circuit. Fire tenders found it hard to reach the room which was small and was situated after a narrow lane in the collector office. During the rescue operation fire was spreading rapidly after which one of the walls of the record room was broken by the fire tenders to stop fire from spreading and providing entry of fire tenders in the premises.

ADM BS Jamod said that fire was controlled by the fire tenders which prevented the records from big damage. Records of Misrod, Chichli and Semri villages would be recreated. He said some revenue records relating to Misrod village were gutted in fire, denying reports that a bulk of land record of three tehsils was reduced to ashes in the blaze.

Denying the fact that three water tankers struggled for over one hour to contain fire ADM Jamod said that they were called to ensure that the fire does not spread.Fire Officials claimed that the absence of windows in the record room made it difficult to control the fire which forced them to break one of the walls. There was only a door for entry while the room was not provided with windows.

Sources have claimed that the fire was set which was a part of conspiracy but none of the officials from the administration and police were ready or willing to comment and denied any kind of conspiracy behind setting fire.
