Goods worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a massive fire at a furniture factory in Mandideep industrial area in the outskirts of Bhopal, in the wee hours on Monday. Fire spread rapidly due to the lack of adequate fire extinguishing system at the factory. It took around eight hours of hectic efforts for the fire tenders to douse the fire which suggests the intensity of fire which gutted goods worth around Rs70-80 lakh.
The preliminary report submitted by the fire brigade officials suggested that the fire took massive shape only as the factory lacked proper measures to pacify fire. The company deals in manufacturing of wood product and in the fire wood, saw-dust and furniture were gutted in fire. After receiving the information fire tenders from Bhopal, Obedullahganj, Mandideep, Raisen and Budhni were rushed to the spot. Fire tenders from HEG Company and Nahar Company were also pressed in service. No casualty was reported and no one sustained injuries but huge damages were caused to the factory. SDM Rajesh Shrivastava and MD of AKVN JN Vyas reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
Shrivastava said that the reason of the fire could be found after investigation. The first priority was to control the spread of the fire which was massive and might have engulfed the adjacent factories making things worst. The factory owners flouting the standard safety and security rules would be served notices and if found guilty, action would be taken, he added.
