Massive short circuit borne fire broke out at the store room of the tourism department at Boat Club in the evening on Saturday; over the store restaurant is operated which was also damaged in the fire.
The loss in the fire could be estimated as no one claimed the amount of loss and more than half a dozen fire tender vehicles took more than an hour to control and pacify the fire which broke at around 5 in the evening.
In the incident no one was injured and no casualty was reported. The employees of the hotel escaped after the fire broke out. The visitors and customers had a narrow escape in the incident at the fire spread rapidly and soon engulfed large part of the hotel.
The incident could have turned nasty as there was fuel storage near the store but fire was controlled before it could spread to other areas of the premises.
The store which caught fire had good amount of goods and the loss could be not ascertained but the loss would be of lakhs of rupees.
Panic prevailed in the area after the fire broke out. The fire tenders were witnessed making their way to the spot and due to massive crowd and heavy traffic the fire tenders faced difficulty.
The employees and visitors tried to control the fire but failed and later fire brigade took control of the situation and pacified the fire.
The furniture and electronic goods at the hotel were damaged in the fire.
