Finally, the State Congress limited its star campaigners’ list to 40, including two common people, a singer and brother of late leader lalatendu (lulu) Bidyadhar Mohapatra on Sunday after the State Election Commission (SEC) struck down its earlier list of 60 star campaigners.
The party has brought to the campaigning battle lulu’s brother lalitendu, a first timer, along with anti-liquor leader of Kandhamal Keshamati Pradhan and Rahul Nayak of Tumudibandha who lost his parents in police firing.
Out of the 16 party MlAs, ten including Yogesh Singh and Krushna Chandra Sagaria did not find places in the list.
Singer Narendra Kumar would also be seen campaigning for the party.
Among others, leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati, MlA Naba Kumar Das, former CM leader Hemananda Biswal, former Union Ministers Kanhu Charan lenka and KP Singh Deo and party State in-charge BK Hariprasad and his deputy Subhankar Sarkar are chosen for the eminent campaigners’ list.
“We had prepared a list of 60, including the names of more common people. But the number was later reduced to 40 after the Election Commission disapproved the big list,” said PCC president Prasad Harichandan.
PCC treasurer Md Moqim said the party has also planned to woo voters with door-to-door approach and in a complete rural style.
