With the issuance of notification for the election of three Rajya Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, filing of nomination papers commenced on Tuesday, official sources said. Filing of nomination papers will continue till January 28 while scrutiny will be held the next day and the withdrawal of nomination will take place till 3pm on January 31.
The election if necessary would be held on February 7, if there is more than one candidate for the seat and counting is slated to be held on the same day, the sources added.
Chief Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh assembly Rajkumar Pande has been named as the returning officer for the election of three seats from the State. As per the calculation of the State two seats would go to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while one seat would go to the opposition Congress.
