FIITJEE Bhopal branch closure leaves hundreds of families in distress

Published on:

The abrupt closure of FIITJEE's Bhopal branch has left around 700 students and their families grappling with uncertainty, financial loss, and emotional turmoil. The prestigious coaching institute, known for preparing students for competitive exams like JEE, shut down unexpectedly in December, leaving futures at stake and parents scrambling for answers.

The closure has not only disrupted the students' education but also caused an estimated financial loss of ?12–15 crore. Many parents, who had invested significant sums for their children’s future, now fear losing their hard-earned money.

Sudden Shutdown Shocks Families

Akhilesh Agarwal, a parent, recounted how his son had been enrolled in FIITJEE’s integrated course for four years. While the initial years went smoothly, the sudden closure has left them stranded. Parents, on average, had paid around ?2 lakh in fees, with many now uncertain about refunds.

Deepika Chauhan, another parent, expressed distress over her daughter Shruti's situation. Enrolled in FIITJEE's 4-year Supreme Program, Shruti’s education came to a halt before completing her 10th-grade syllabus. Chauhan, who paid ?2.83 lakh, said her daughter is now experiencing severe academic and emotional distress.

The closure followed a wave of teacher resignations due to non-payment of salaries. Despite earlier assurances that online classes would continue, parents found the center locked, with no teachers or staff available.

This isn’t the first such instance for FIITJEE, as the Indore center had also shut down previously. However, parents in Bhopal had been reassured that their children’s education would remain unaffected, making the sudden closure even more devastating.

Parents have lodged complaints with local authorities, seeking justice for the financial and academic disruption. An FIR has been filed, and over 100 parents have recorded their statements. The Bhopal district administration has canceled the coaching center’s license, but concrete steps to recover funds or address students' educational concerns are yet to be taken.

The families have been promised refunds, but the lack of action from the authorities or FIITJEE’s management has left parents contemplating legal measures. Many are preparing to file cases in consumer and criminal courts.

For students, FIITJEE was a crucial step toward achieving their dreams in competitive exams. The closure has instead become a painful lesson in institutional failure. Parents and students are urging authorities to act swiftly to ensure justice and allow students to continue their education without further setbacks.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for stricter oversight and accountability in the education sector to protect families and students from such crises in the future.
