False entries by cops in PS diaries: HRC call for action

Published on:

Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MP HRC) on Friday made several recommendations in order to end the irregularities committed by the police personnel by entering false information in the general diary at police stations.

Commission has stated in its recommendation that the police officials say that they are in field despite the fact that they remain in the police station only. This illegal practice delays the investigation in different cases and the police personnel get benefitted.

Notably, Damoh’s journalist Shyam Sundar Jain had complained in the Commission regarding strict action against two persons who had sexually assaulted two girls. Tendukheda police did not lodge the FIR as both the persons had taken away the victims by alluring them (girls) for marriage. The police officials did not take action even after getting the information of the sex racket.

Commission has recommended that the senior police officials should check the entries in the general diaries and should get the information regarding the movement of police station staff. If any official is found lying about his location then strict disciplinary action should be taken against him.

Jain had complained that the police officials had threatened him of implicating in a forged case, as he had published this news in the Dainik Bhaskar newspaper.

It was clear with the report of the sub divisional officer (Police) that when Kallo Bai had complained in the police station, the officials did not take any action on her complaint. Police officials intentionally did not enter the details of complainant’s presence in the general diary.

Action has been taken in this case, but the Commission found that police personnel do not register the complaint of the people and later on the basis of entries in general diary, they claim that they were out of the police station.
