The sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in an early morning swoop on Wednesday carried out simultaneous raids at as many as 12 places in Indore and other cities and small towns of Madhya Pradesh in connection with fake lIC policies scam involving a sum of about Rs 1.5 crore.

More than nine teams of CBI Bhopal comprising over 50 officials raided at least 9 different places in Indore alone. In Indore, the CBI teams raided the residential and business premises of lIC officers and agents located at  Anoop Nagar, Sundar Nagar, Rangwasa, lala ka Bagicha and Sanwer area and stumbled upon various incriminating documents related to fake lIC policies, the details of which were still awaited.

Among the officials of lIC   officials whose residences were raided include the residence of an lIC administrative officer Nidhi Kirti at House No. 163 Anoop Nagar. As many as 12 CBI officials raided the residence of Nidhi Kirti and seized various documents related to fake lIC policies. The CBI had received complaint that lIC agents in connivance with the lIC officials had issued fake policies to the beneficiaries at the satellite branch of the lIC in Sanwer from 2008 to 2012 but didn’t deposit the money to lIC. The CBI had information about 300 policies involving a sum of Rs 1.5 crore which had been issued by the lIC agents.

However, number of such fake lIC policies may go up after thorough scrutiny of documents seized from the business and residential premises of lIC agents and officers, CBI sources informed. Prima facie, names of five officers and seven lIC agents have figures in the fake police scam. According to report, the lIC agents in connivance with some lIC officers used to trap the gullible people.

The agents and officers after collecting lIC premium from the people, instead of depositing the premium amount with the lIC, deposited the same in their bank accounts. It was only after receiving complaints that the CBI swung into action and carried out simultaneous raids in Indore and other towns like Gwalior, Ujjain, Tarana and Mhow.
