Excess calcium in water causes kidney stone, cautions expert

Published on:

Kidney stone is a disease of the urinary system which is caused due to deficiency of water and abundance of calcium in the water. The kidney stone causes various problems such as pain and frequent vomiting,” says Dr Azam Nawaz of Nawaz Urology Hospital, Bhopal.

While talking to the media persons here on Tuesday, Dr Azam nawaz stated that kidney stone could be controlled by the proper treatment. There are various new techniques for finding out the kidney stone such as CT scan, X-ray and diagnostic sonography but the most modern way is Retrograde Intra-Renal Surgery (RIRS).

Explaining the RIRS technique, Dr Nawaz said that RIRS is a procedure for doing surgery within the kidney using a fine, thin and flexible viewing tube called a fiberoptic endoscope. In RIRS, the endoscope is placed through the urethra (the urinary opening) into the bladder and then through the ureter into the urine-collecting part of the kidney. No skin incision is required in this technique and natural urinary passage is used for the instrument to enter the kidney, making all parts of kidney accessible.  Everyone should be aware about the kidney stone and its symptoms in order to get better treatment at the earliest stage, he added.

Dr Nawaz adds, “We are spreading awareness regarding the RIRS technique among the people in the remote areas. Our hospital has also successfully conducted more than 100 surgeries through this technique. Recently in October, I have got the invitation from Paris to work with the best doctors.”
