Even as the State Government issued an advisory to the students and their parents to be cautious to avoid any sort of pressure during the ongoing examinations, two more students committed suicide on Saturday.
There have been several such instances in the recent past in which students ended life under pressure of examinations. The CBSE and MP Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) have introduced helpline numbers, but still the suicides continue.
On Saturday, Hoshangabad resident veterinarian Shivkumar Sahu's son Abhishek, a student of Class XII, hanged himself at his home last night. He was nervous due to his examination of Physics paper scheduled for Saturday. A suicide note was recovered from him.
In a similar incident, reported from Bina on Saturday, Class XII student Deepa ended life by hanging in her room in the morning. She was to appear in English examination on Saturday. Her father is a school teacher at Thimlata village.
During midnight, her family members had seen Deepa studying, but early in the morning, her mother spotted her hanging from the ceiling. In the suicide note she left, she has stated that she was weak in English, unable to clear the examination and thus 'quitting'.
Several cases of suicides by students in Madhya Pradesh due to examination-related stress have come to light recently. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had expressed his concern in the Assembly over the matter recently following which Speaker Sitasaran Sharma announced constitution of a committee to study the problem and provide suggestions based on deliberations with experts.
