A total of 751 votes had been cast by the Congress leaders and workers for the election of party’s official nominee for Indore lok Sabha seat, of which 26 votes were declared as invalid.

Now with Patel emerging a winner in the tri-angular contest of the party, his name be sent to the party’s central committee for the final declaration of his name as party’s official nominee from Indore. Congress MP and Party’s Madhya Pradesh incharge, Sanjay Nirupam was also present during the election.

Indore and Mandsaur are among 15 parliamentary seats in the country from where the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had decided to select candidates on the basis of party’s internal electoral process.

Initially the party leaders had decided to reach a consensus on the name of Satyanarayan Patel as party’s official nominee from Indore lok Sabha seat.

While majority of the party’s local leaders were trying to reach a consensus on his name by exerting pressure on other probable party candidates who wanted to become party’s official nominee from Indore, senior party leaders Archana Jaiswal and Yogesh Yadav setting aside the party leaders decision also staked their claims and subsequently filed nominations for the selection of party candidate from Indore.

However, as Patel enjoyed support of the majority of the party leaders and workers, he piped past his rivals by a comfortable majority. Satyanarayan Patel had recently contested as party’s official candidate from Deepalpur assembly seat from where he suffered defeat at the hands of the BJP candidate Manoj Patel.
