Lambasting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Centre and Madhya Pradesh for being anti-farmer, senior Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here on Monday said that peasants are meted criminal-like treatment in the state.
“The state regime opens fire on agriculturists to quell their agitation seeking remunerative prices. On the other hand, the Centre brutally assaults them,” Hooda told media persons here.
“I used to think that farmers would be prosperous in Madhya Pradesh because its chief minister is the son of a farmer.
However, peasants are on the verge of starvation in the state, not to mention in the country,” he said.
