In a bizarre incident that sent shock waves throughout the city, an eve teasing accused jumped to his death from the terrace of the Hajira Police Station in Gwalior on Saturday morning.

According to the Hajira police, they were interrogating Nandu, a thirty year old man from Hajira against whom a lady had filed a complaint of eve teasing. Even as the police were questioning him, the man, allegedly in an inebriated state ran to the top of the police station and jumped from there before the pursuing police could catch him.

The policemen at the station informed the senior officers before rushing Nandu to JAH where he was declared dead.

On getting the alert Gwalior SP, Navneet Bhasin instructed all the police officers in the city to step up security so that no untoward incident takes place due to this.

The Hajira police station and the JAH were cordoned off for some time and armed police platoons were deployed at various places at Hajira and the surrounding areas.

SP Bhasin also instructed the area TI to provide full security to the lady who had filed the complaint. A dozen police personnel have been deployed at the residence of the complainant.

It is learnt from sources that the man had confessed to the crime and had requested the petitioner to withdraw the complaint. However, as he had teased her many times in the past, she refused to withdraw the complaint. It is also learnt that the police had already framed charges against him under section 354 of the IPC before he made the dash for the terrace.

Speaking to the media persons, the TI of the Hajira Police Station said that they are trying to find the relatives of the deceased man as the body is yet to be claimed.

Despite searching the area, the police are yet to find out the residence of the deceased. A senior police officer said that the matter is being probed from all possible angles.
