To check the increasing number of casualties in the BRTS corridor of Bhopal, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation has decided to erect entry gates along the corridor in the night.  Mayor Alok Sharma on Tuesday inaugurated the barriers to stop entry of unauthorized vehicles during night. CCTV cameras would also be installed to keep vigil on the BRTS corridor.

To check frequent casualties at BRTS corridor occurring from 11 pm to 6 am,  when the BRTS bus service halts, 54 barriers would be installed at 27 places across the BRTS stretch from Bairagarh to Misrod.

Notably, this exercise is being done after the MP Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) had recommended to the State Government some measures as how to check the accidents in the corridor. While inaugurating the entry barriers, the Mayor said that the facilities provided by the Government should not create problems for the people. The State Government is committed towards providing every possible public utility facilities but if the same facility becomes a matter of concern the issues should be resolved.

The 24 km long stretch of BRTS corridor was constructed for authorized vehicles only and the unauthorized vehicles were not allowed to use the BRTS corridor but due to the unauthorized entry of vehicles accidents and casualties are reported which has forced the BMC to take strict action by placing barriers to completely ban entry of such vehicles, he added.

Sharma further added that shortcomings surfaced in the BRTS corridor would be addressed and would work for improving it. He instructed the officials to place barriers at marked places in the next ten days and to install CCTV cameras at crossing points in the next two months.
