Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare Praveer Krishna congratulated departmental officers and employees on programmes held on Gandhi Jayanti. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had launched a special sanitation drive in health institutions of the state from JP Hospital here on October 2.
Side be side, Mamta Mashal Juloos was taken out in the entire State to popularise among common people 12 practices identified under Mamta Abhiyan for maternal and infant health safety. Maximum stress is being laid in the state this year on reducing maternal and infant mortality rate. For this, work to distribute iron tablets to remove iron deficiency will have to be expedited and the process propagated to ensure success.
Under Swachhta Abhiyan, voluntary labour was made for sanitation in the presence of public representatives and health institution in-charges to make clean every health institution in the state from district hospital to Gram Arogya Kendra. The Principal Secretary has also expressed gratitude towards public representatives, common people and media for cooperation to the government’s drive.
At a programme in Jai Prakash Hospital, here on Thursday, CM Shivraj and public representatives also partnered in Swachchh Abhiyan. At the programme, Chouhan also lit a torch (mashal) as a sign of Government’s commitment for maternal and infant health.
Mamta torch processions were taken out in the evening at district, development block and Gram Panchayat levels. In the state capital also, corporators, distinguished citizens and Health department’s staff took out torch processions. Through the torch processions, people were apprised of anaemia in all age groups, especially women and its management as well as maternal and infant health safety. In coming years, focus will be on saving women through use of iron tablets. Even if the tablet does not taste good, its use can save lives. Villagers are being made to understand this in simple language by health workers. Under Mamta Abhiyan, continuous work is being done to apprise pregnant women about risk of losing life during delivery and its management. The drive is being conducted with people’s cooperation. Mamta Raths are creating awareness in every development block. Special presentations are also being given through Mamta Raths during torch processions in cities and villages.
