Electricity: 15 complaints of overcharging, faulty meters made

Published on:

As many as 15 complaints were received by the Electricity Consumer Complaint Forum situated at Roshni Ghar, Gwalior today for overcharging due to faulty meters. Consumers who reached the Roshni Ghar this morning complained that the meters fixed by the company were showing faulty readings and that the company is overcharging them due to this. It is not a new thing that the residents of Gwalior have been facing hardships due to various absurdities in the meter reading.

Kuldeep Singh Kushwaha, a labourer residing in the Hajira area complained that his meter has been running unusually fast and his electricity bill amount has suddenly gone up from Rs 800- 1000 a month to Rs  27000 though there was no change in the consumption. The Consumer Complaints Forum reduced the amount to Rs  14000 but the question remains how the bill amount went up in such an abnormal way. The Consumer Complaint Forum consisting of the Chairperson, Rajiv Agarwal, Revenue Member, RK Ladiya and Member SS Mandaloi heard 15 complaints apart from 12 old complaints on Friday.

A complainant from Kampoo area,  Niranjan Babu Gupta complained that his security deposit is being raised every month along with the consumption bill.

According to him his connection was earlier single phase and when he upgraded it to three phase he was asked to pay Rs  30000 in place of the normal Rs 10000.

Similarly for HL Saxena , the electricity bill for the month of August was 7698.00 against the earlier billings of Rs  1000 to 1200. Some consumers also complained that the meter readers are not visiting their homes to take readings.

Engineers at the Electricity Board, while accepting the fact that there were some minor issues with meter readings, said that the shortage of readers was one main reason for this
