The State Election Commission on Saturday cancelled the elections at ward 47 of the State Capital after it was found that the election symbol of an independent candidate was printed wrongly on the EVMs.

In the ward, after the polling had started, it was found that the election symbol of ‘TV’ allotted to independent candidate Satyendra Mahawar was printed as ‘Telephone’. On this, Mahawar registered his objection to election officials and following this, it was decided that the election for corporator in the ward would be cancelled. later, the election for mayor continued in this ward. The Commission has fixed February 2 as the next date for corporator election in ward 47.

Earlier, when the polling commenced at 7 am, there were several complaints from across the city that EVMs faced technical problems. On the receipt of complaints, the EVMs were replaced in time. In the morning hours, the polling was quite slow due to the cold weather conditions.

In a booth at Sarojini Nagar of ward 45, a dispute occurred between two party workers. However, police officials controlled the situation and additional police force was deployed in the area. At some places, the voters faced problems ast he booth level officers were in possession of voters’ list used in lok Sabha elections. Particularly in ward 10, where 26 polling booths are situated, the officers had the old voters’ list. At around 11 am, corporator candidate Mahesh Makwana handed over new list to the BlO Pooran Singh Ahirwar and only then, the polling could be streamlined.
