A Hindi play ‘Ek Aur Zindagi’ was staged on the third day of the Karunesh Theatre Festival. The play was performed at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium here on Wednesday.Written by a renowned story writer Mohan Rakesh, the play is adapted and directed by a noted theatre director Devendra Raj Ankur.

The story revolves around the incomplete desires, dreams and expectations of an individual. Prakash is a character who is shaken by his unfaithful destiny. Every time as he tries to search for the answers the life changes the question for him. The play begins with introducing Prakash and his wife Beena. Beena was well educated and was earning well for herself and her child but the egoism in her temperament changes the entire life of Prakash.

The ego fights and unnecessary arguments lead to divorce between the couple and the child’s custody is given to Beena. Prakash’s son Palash used to visit him every day, play with him and to spend time with his father. Prakash was trying to forget all that has happened. He decided to get married again. Now, here enters the twist of the story ‘Nirmala’.

Nirmala was Prakash’s best friend’s sisters. As they both get married, Prakash finds out the bitter truth about his second wife. She was mentally unstable and pretends that some supernatural powers are incarnated in her. Eventually, Prakash lost his hope and wanted to return back to his old home.

But, life does not give another chance to him. The play ends with a sad note, as he was walking in the rain and turns back to see if anyone is walking with him he finds no one but, a dog. This was the scene where the stage light went off leaving the audiences spell-bound.

The mixture of lights and music added more zest in the presentation. Further, the audiences were able to connect with the characters which clearly explained the magic of direction.

Notably, Ankur has given theatres a new form where he brought the concept of presenting stories as a theatre play before the audiences. Undoubtedly, he is the perfect one in doing such innovations. The opening show of this play was staged at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan in 2012.
