Eid-ul-Adha: Few buyers for animals as sellers claim high

Want to buy a buffaloIJ Think twice. Even as the Muslim community is all set to celebrate the Eid-ul-Adha (feast of the sacrifice), buying a buffalo, goat or a sheep here in the State Capital is proving to be an unaffordable task for common man as the prices of the animals have gone up multi-fold. Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 16.

like every years hundreds of traders from far flung areas have brought a variety of goats, sheep and buffalos to the various cattle markets of State Capital. But buffaloes this time are costing a whopping Rs 20,000 plus, almost double the cost compared to last year’s and so is the price of goats.

The price of sheep is no exception as the traders are hoping to attract huge customers due to recent hike in the goat and buffalo prices. Sellers charge such high prices claiming that the commodities price rise has affected their business too.

Though the number of the customers remains very thin at cattle markets in the capital, the prices are still high.

Nazar Ahmed, a goat seller, claims he owns the original breed of the Khassi Goat and he has fixed a significantly high price for it.

“This is a Khassi breed of goat which is found in Agra. I have owned this goat for ten months. It weighs 35-40 kilograms. I have kept the offer price at two lakh rupees,” said Khan.

The festival is being celebrated by Muslims worldwide to honour the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his young first-born son Ismail (Ishmael) a as an act of submission to God’s (Allah) command and his son’s acceptance to being sacrificed.
