The process for elections to fill three Rajya Sabha seats from the State started from Tuesday. The Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Madhya Pradesh Assembly's Principal Secretary Bhagwan Dev Israni as Returning Officer for the elections for these three seats that will become vacant on July 1, while MP Assembly Secretary AP Singh has been appointed Assistant Returning Officer.

The MP legislative Assembly Secretariat issued a notification for the biennial elections to the three Rajya Sabha seats. "After the Election Commission of India fixed the schedule for the Rajya Sabha elections, we have issued the notification for the biennial elections," said Israni.

The election for the three seats to the Upper House is scheduled to be held on June 11. While the process for filing of nominations for these seats began on Tuesday, the last date for filing of nominations is May 31. The verification of the nomination paper would be done on June 1. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 3. The election process will conclude on June 13.

The elections are required as the tenure of the BJP's Anil Madhav Dave and Chandan Mitra and Congress' Vijaylaxmi Sadho would be ending on July 1. If required, the polling will be held on June 11 from 9 am to 4 pm and counting of votes will take place on the same day at 5 pm, Israni said.
