EC members, MlAs boycott BU meeting

Barkatullah University Vice Chancellor Nisha Dubey had a verbal spat with people’s representatives during the university court meeting in the university premises on Tuesday.

The exchange was sparked by a query of Congress MlA Arif Aqeel as to why she (Dubey) had asked Congress leader Shobha Oza to call up Aqeel and ask him (Aqeel) to see to it that the university budget is passed without any hitch. Dubey bluntly retorted that she would do what she liked. Sources said Oza is the sister-in-law of Dubey.

Oza reportedly called up Aqeel on phone on Monday which left the latter offended.

Another MlA, Vishwas Sarang and other court members stood up in protest claiming the university budget had not been passed. The BU administration, however, stuck to its stand that the court had passed the

Rs 124-crore annual budget of the university.

later, the people’s representatives and EC members boycotted the meeting.

Sarang said the VC had insulted him and Aqeel for raising objections to the budget. He would use his special powers and raise the matter in the State Assembly, he said.

EC member Amit Sharma said the budget had been prepared even without the services of a finance officer and when they objected to any clause in the budget, the university staff misbehaved with them.

MlA Arif Aqeel said the university administration was in wrong hands. Dubey is not even eligible to become the Vice Chancellor and she should be removed from the post. She does not even listen to others and behaves like a dictator.

It may be mentioned that BU administration was not prepared for discussion on the budget on Monday and the meeting had to be postponed till Tuesday.
