The Election Commission of India has given permission to candidates to appoint an additional 'authorised nominated' person in Lok Sabha elections. In addition to the election agent, the candidate will be able to make an authorised nominated person on the basis of the Assembly constituency in the Lok Sabha constituency, who will be able to attend meetings on behalf of the candidate and will be able to do all other election related works except the legal proceedings.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Yadav said that due to the size of the parliamentary constituency being large, the Commission has provided the facility to the candidates of an 'authorized nominated' person for election related work. The number of authorized nominated persons should not exceed the number of assembly seats in the Lok Sabha constituency.
The nominated persons will not have legal rights at par with the election agent.
The nominated person will not be able to participate in the scrutiny process; will not be able to give information of withdrawal of name. Will neither be able to appoint voting / counting agent nor will he be able to revoke the appointment of such agents.
Nominated person will not be able to do the work done by the candidate nor will he be able to go to the polling centers and counting venue.
In the absence of the candidate, he will not be able to apply for re-counting and will not be authorized to maintain the election expenses account of the candidate.
Apart from this, the authorised nominee can participate for other works on behalf of the candidate (who has been appointed by the candidate).
