The little learners of the city carried out an extended, collaborative, inquiry-based exhibition, ‘PYP Exhibition,’ and a ‘Kindergarten Mela’ on Sunday. Hosted by Eastern Public School (EPS) at its premises, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) exhibition of International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum is a part of the culmination activity of the students of grade five. Interestingly, EPS is the first and the only international school of the State capital to have adopted the IB Programme, Geneva Switzerland.
The students of grade five exhibited and demonstrated their research projects under the theme ‘Who We AreIJ’ which offered the solutions to the problems dealing with health issues and suggested the actions taken to resolve the real life concerns.
Notably, the parents along with whole school community were the part of this exhibition. It was an enthralling experience for the visitors as the students with much buoyancy and confidence interacted with them and explained each concept.
The students were divided into different groups to conduct research on topics like Adulteration, Addiction, Social Health and Global Diseases. To spread a mass awareness the students also created blogs. This exhibition was a result of rigorous inquiry which the students carried out under the guidance of teachers and mentors.
Interestingly, this exhibition gave an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the IB learner Profile that have been developing throughout the programme. Students are given flexibility in their choice of real-life issues to be explored and investigated in the Exhibition.
While talking to The Pioneer, Chairman of the school Mansoor Durrani said, “PYP is core element of mission EPS. It lays a strong foundation for building the lifelong learning skills.” Moreover, Director of the school, Umar Jaffar said, “PYP Exhibition is the culmination of students’ learning through five years.” Visitors were thrilled to see how research skills were developed and practiced at such a young age, he added.
The centre of attraction was the Kindergarten Mela. Interestingly, it is one of its kind exhibitions that have ever happened in the city. Here the KG students explained the various concepts which they had learned in the class. The tiny tots stole the show as they explained concepts with much poise.
PYP Coordinator of the school Humera Riyaz told, “The main objective of this exhibition was to spread awareness amongst the society about the enduring problems prevailing”. The exhibition was a spellbinding experience for all the students as well as the visitors.
