E-challans on way to free traffic police of papers

Published on:

The traffic police would soon be paperless in its working of imposing fines on the drivers violating traffic rules. So far, the fines were imposed (known as challan) on a piece of paper, but it would now be replaced with e-challans with the help of handheld machines across the city.

After the successful trial of the e-challan hand held machines system would be used at important points to check the rash drivers improving the traffic system of the city.

Addl SP (Traffic) Sameer Yadav said that around 100 hand held machines have been procured but there are some permission that are pending due to which the process completion would take time and once it is completed it would be ensured that the system functions smoothly.

The trails conducted were successful, in the trails around 200 challans were issued and proper implementation would be done soon after the clearance of the permissions which are under process, he added.

Yadav said that Bhopal traffic police station would be the first traffic police station of the state which would connect with Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and the process has been accelerates by the State Crime Record Bureau.

The best part of the system would be the use of the machine even if the server connectivity is disrupted. In that condition from a single devise 500 manual challans would be issued.

Earlier for maintaining data of crime and criminals police stations were linked with the CCTNS and now traffic police stations would be connected to provide a good platform.

Bhopal traffic police station would be the first traffic police station of the state which would connect with CCTNS and the process has been accelerates by the State Crime Record Bureau.

If the driver is found guilty of violating traffic rules by traffic police third time action of cancellation of the license would be done and recommendation of cancellation of licenses would be made with the regional transport office.

In the system used earlier, the police officials used to face problems in data collection, as the officers used to update the data at the traffic police office in the evening. However, in the e-challan system, the data would be updated real time basis, he added.
