Social activist from the State capital Ajay Dubey has alleged that the vehicular pollution is continuously on the rise in the cities of State while the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) remains a mute spectator.
Dubey, secretary of the Prayatan Environmental Action Group in a statement here on Tuesday said, “World Health Organisation (WHO) released a report recently stated that vehicular pollution is continuously on the rise in the cities like Indore and Gwalior of MP.”
Dubey further said that due this pollution the health of the people of the State is getting affected and they are suffering from many serious diseases including that of breathing trouble and cancer. According to information available with us the WHO report shows the fact of pollution in the State, he added.
He said that the MPPCB and the transport department of the State every year prepares the details of the vehicular pollution in the State but it is just for formality because the increasing pollution reflects its failure.
He said that the MPPCB monitors the vehicular pollution and collects the information about it in major cities of the state. Constituted in 1974 through Water Act the Pollution Control Board collects these figures every year and sends it to transport department but the transport department do not takes any legal action on it and in the result the atmosphere of the cities of state are fast becoming poisonous, he added.
He said that we demand that the WGO report should be made public and the appointments in the important institution like the MPPCB should be made transparent and eligible and able persons should be appointed in it.
In-fact the whole procedure of the appointment in the board should be transparent and should also be kept away from political pressure so that it could work with full might, he added.
