Taking on the Madhya Pradesh police for dragging a suspect to the district court in the State Capital yesterday after allegedly stripping and chaining him, the State Congress has sought an explanation from Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demanded prompt action against those guilty.
Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Manak Agarwal while talking to media persons here on Sunday said, “The way the suspect has been treated by the police is inhuman. Even when the British ruled us, suspects were not tortured like this. The police had caught the accused, stripped him, chained him and then produced him in the court. I don’t think such an incident has ever taken place in history. The Madhya Pradesh police is responsible for this.”
Agarwal added, “It is very unfortunate that this incident took place inside the premises of a court. The police officials responsible should be probed and swift action should be taken against them.”
Accusing the Union Home Minister of not doing his duty, Agarwal said, “Home Minister Rajnath Singh is attending rallies in Haryana rather than addressing this problem. If these kinds of incidents keep on taking place in Madhya Pradesh, then the Congress party will protest vociferously against the condition of law and order in the State.”
Notably, appalling scenes were witnessed on Saturday at the district court premises here when an accused was dragged by four police personnel to produce him in the court.
Anees Khan an accused of possessing illegal arms and was produced in the court on Saturday but in a shocking manner as he was dragged by police personnel from the parking of the court premises to the court where hearing was scheduled.
Superintendent of Police Bhopal (North) Arvind Saxena said that the accused Anees Khan was booked for more than two dozen cases of theft, burglary, assault, attempt to murder and illegal arms possession. He is a habitual offender and is heavily addicted to drugs and on Friday night also he was caught creating ruckus in his locality. The locals have raised several complaints against him in the past.
