All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Dr Sandeep Kumar would continue to work in the same institution. A final decision over his resignation was taken on Tuesday by the Institute body of AIIMS in New Delhi that has rejected Dr Kumar’s resignation.
Sources said that the decision in this regard was taken by the Institute body’s meeting in the presence of Dr Kumar.
Dr Kumar had resigned from his post allegedly due to some dispute with institute body over the policies regarding finance, equipment procurement and authority over the institution though he denied of any such differences.
More than Rs 200 crore equipments have to be procured for the institution but till now equipments costing just Rs 20 crore have been purchased by the institution. Dr Kumar was under intense pressure to start the OPD of the institution by August 15 but the institution lack essential equipments for compete treatment of patients.
It is worth mentioning that earlier then AIIMS Bhopal Dean Dr Kishore Chaudhary resigned in February 2013 from his post due to differences with Institute body.
Dr Kumar’s resignation created much uproar in the AIIMS Bhopal, faculty members of the institute had sent a letter to Institute body requesting them not to accept the resignation of Dr Kumar and students on learning about Dr Kumar’s resignation they met him and requested tearfully not to leave the institution.
However, Dr Kumar while talking to The Pioneer, said that he was leaving the position in AIIMS Bhopal due to personal reasons. He said he also had requested the Institute body to accept his resignation and relieve him from his duty in AIIMS Bhopal but the body declined.
Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Joint Secretary Sandeep Naik had said that Dr Kumar’s resignation was recommended to the Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and final decision will be taken by him. Naik denied having any knowledge regarding Institution body meeting organised in New Delhi regarding Dr Kumar’s resignation.
