Criticising BJP’s attempts to take credit of Maulana Azhar Masood being designated a global terrorist, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar here on Friday claimed the move has been brought about over Afghanistan and not the terror attacks on India.
While talking to media persons at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) reminded BJP that it was this party which released Masood during Kandhar incident. “Masood designation as global terrorist is only a repentance of their (BJP) sin and they are glorifying it as an award,” claimed Babbar.
He sought to refute BJP claims the UN move has come in the wake of special diplomatic efforts of Modi government in the wake of terror attacks on the country saying the move mentions that Masood has been pronounced an international terrorist over Afghanistan and the ban did no mention of either Pulwama or Pathankot attack.
It was all an outcome of foreign policy mooted by out late leaders and efforts initiated by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2008-09, claimed the film actor-turned-politician. Claiming that there was edginess in BJP after the impact of Congress’ long term policies have started reaching out to the ground level, the senior leader said the BJP’s uneasiness is evident from the fact that their Finance minister, Defence minister, Education minister, Railways minister and former ministers aren’t contesting lok sabha polls.
And what kind of faces they are presenting in elections is known to all. If it was possible, they would have fielded those languishing in jail as candidates. “They have candidates who are charge-sheeted and Mamaji (Shivraj) even accompanied a candidate accused of murder during filing of nomination, alleged the visiting leader. Ex-CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had accompanied his minister Lal Singh Arya, a murder accused, while filing of nominations during assembly polls.
Babbar’s chargesheeted remark was aimed at sadhvi Pragya Thakur who is an accused in 2008 Malegaon blast case and is out on bail. Thakur is BJP’s Bhopal lok sabha candidate.
