Junior Doctors gathered outside Blocks 1 and 2 at Hamidia Hospital on Saturday to demand the cancellation of Dr Aruna Kumar’s appointment as Director of Medical Education.
Junior doctors, senior faculty, and Medical Teachers Association (MTA) members shouted slogans and held placards. They called for a neutral, controversy-free figure to be appointed to the sensitive administrative post.
The protest followed late-night deliberations on Friday between Junior Doctors Association (JDA), MTA, and Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, where objections to Dr Kumar’s appointment were formally conveyed.
Protesters cited serious allegations from her previous tenure. JDA said her conduct led to repeated campus tensions. At one point, senior female doctors had threatened mass resignations, citing an unworkable environment created by her behaviour.
“This is not a personal matter,” said JDA president Dr Kuldeep Gupta. “It’s about her controversial record. The DME’s post demands someone beyond reproach.”
Support for the protest was echoed in Jabalpur and Indore. Junior doctor groups from MGM Medical College and the Indian Medical Association’s youth wing also opposed the appointment.
The Hamidia demonstration, led by MTA’s Dr Rakesh Malviya, remained peaceful but resolute. Doctors said those with unresolved allegations should not lead the medical education system.
