Annoyed over disturbing marriage proceedings by a divorced woman, family members and friends of her alleged lover set her afire in Gandhi Nagar area on Saturday. She is still struggling for life in 60 per cent burnt conduction.
According to the police, the victim got married around 2 years ago but the couple separated within few months of marriage. later, the woman started living with her parents and became acquainted with Sunil Gaur who lives in the same locality.
The two developed physical relationship and the accused exploited the victim on the pretext of marriage. The accused resorted to excuses whenever the victim asked him for marriage.
On Saturday the victim got information that Sunil is going to get married after which she along with her father went to Sunil’s house and alleged that he had exploited her on the pretext of marrying her which infuriated Sunil’s family and they roughed up the woman and her father.
The accused got so angered that he along with his father and other two persons set the victim ablaze. The locals rushed to her rescue and took her to Hamidia hospital. The victim suffered around 60 burns and is under going treatment at Hamidia Hospital and her condition is reportedly critical. The police have registered a case under section 307 of IPC and sections 2, 3 and 5 of the Prevention of Atrocities on SC/ST Act. Based on the victim’s statement police have registered a case against Sunil, Jagannath, Khubbi and Umrao.
