Dissent in BJP over ticket denial

After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared tickets on all the 29 lok Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh, opposition to the candidates has commenced on its high on Saturday. Rajya Sabha member Raghunandan Sharma, who was seeking ticket from Mandsaur constituency, after denial of party ticket, termed the decision as shameful, while another claimant Bansilal Gurjar termed it as a tragedy.

Besides, there have been reports since late Friday night that Bhopal district president Alok Sharma, after denial of ticket from Bhopal might resign from the post.  However, in the morning, he agreed on the ticket of Alok Sanjar and in the afternoon, both Alok Sanjar and Alok Sharma were seen moving together and called on senior party leaders.

The party candidates are facing opposition on Mandsaur and Khajuraho seats. Soon after returning from New Delhi, ticket claimant Raghunandan Sharma told media persons that the decision of ticket to Sudhir Gupta was injustice to the people of the constituency.

“In Mandsaur, the party workers are in shock and they are making phone calls as why Gupta has been fielded. Since, I am devoted party worker, there is no question of quitting the party fold, but I would find out as why the decision went against him,” he added. Sharma further stated that he has been a devoted party worker for decades and in such a situation, such decisions hurt him.

Similar was the attitude of other claimant from Mandsaur Bansilal Gurjar, who is also State president of Farmers’ cell of the BJP. He told that party workers should consider this decision as a tragedy, but work for the party. However, Gurjar supporters on Saturday burnt an effigy of party nominee Sudhir Gupta.

Similarly, in Khajuraho, the party workers are opposing BJP candidate Nagendra Singh, stating that he is an outsider. Sitting MP Jitendra Singh Bundela, who has been denied ticket this time, told that it was surprising that the party could not find any able candidate from three Assembly segments. He said that somebody from Chhatarpur district should have been fielded from Khajuraho.
