Digvijaya Singh’s name popped up as PCC chief

The name of senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh also popped up here on Thursday, as a claimant for the coveted post of PCC Chief in Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier, Digvijay Singh and Cooperative Minister Govind Singh had met former leader of opposition in the State assembly Ajay Singh at his residence. It was believed that the name of Ajay Singh was being raised for the post, but now, the party sources claimed that Digvijay Singh lobbied for him.

Around two dozen Congress legislators, most of them belonging to thakur and Brahmin communities had gathered at the residence of Ajay Singh.

Sources further claimed that the whole exercise is only to keep former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia away from the post of PCC Chief.

Till now names including former union minister Jyotiraidtya Scindia, former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, Rahul Gandhi loyalist Meenakshi Natrajan, Kamal Nath loyalist and the Home minister Bala Bachchan and OBC candidate Ramniwas Rawat are making rounds for the coveted post.

However, as the fight is intensified for the post, factionalism is coming to the fore with full vigour in the last few days.

However, reacting to reports of Digvijay Singh being seen as frontrunner for the post, a leader from his camp claimed that these are baseless and cooked up reports as ‘Raja Sahab’ (as Digvijay Singh is referred to as in party circles) is unwilling to take over the mantle. A senior leader of the party claimed that till now, Digvijay Singh at any front did not rule out his becoming the PCC Chief. Singh’s name is being considered a probable as he is known for his proximity to Gandhis and holds matchless clout on the party cadre in MP.
