Digvijay promises loan waiver for farmers

Congress leader Digvijay Singh said that the Congress leaders are grass-root leaders, while the BJP leaders are associated with lands.

While addressing a public meeting here at Gandhi Square on Thursday, the former Chief Minister said that when Congress came to power, it always stood by the welfare of the poor people, but the BJP got busy in filling the chests of middlemen, land mafias and the builders. He also claimed that if voted to power, the Congress would waive off loans up to Rs 51,000 of farmers. He alleged that at Pipliyamandi, earlier BJP president Rajnath Singh had declared to waive off loans up to Rs 50,000, but not this, the BJP forgot other assurances as well.

The Congress general secretary alleged that there was large-scale corruption under the BJP Government in Madhya Pradesh, a charge brushed aside by the ruling party. Singh said various ‘panchayats’ held at the Chief Minister’s residence reflected corruption. He alleged that rules were violated with impunity in Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s Assembly constituency and in Vidisha, the lok Sabha constituency of leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj.

Singh alleged that the commission system is so much prevalent in the BJP rule that in the panchayats held at Chief Minister’s residence, one plate of meal cost Rs 850. This fact has come to fore after receiving information on an RTI application, he added. Meanwhile, a BJP leader, while refusing to comment on Singh’s charges said, this is an election year in the State and such charges, even if not true, can come from the leader of the opposition party.
