Digvijay exhorts workers to strengthen Congress

Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Digvijay Singh was in the city on Saturday for a few hours. He was on way to Bhind to attend a meeting in connection with the unveiling of the statue of Maharana Pratap.

Digvijay Singh, during a breakfast get- together at the residence of the Apex Bank Administrator Ashok Singh met party leaders and workers and held discussions with them on various issues. He exhorted the party workers to put in all efforts to strengthen the party in the state.

On the topic of the PCC Chief, Digvijay said there is no confusion and added that the decision is up to the High Command. He also said that there are no squabbles with Scindia and added that all speculations on this are creations of the media. Earlier he had a meeting with the Gwalior IG Rajababu Singh, District Collector Anurag Chaudhary and Gwalior SSP Navneet Bhasin at his hotel room.

Despite Digvijay’s claims that everything is fine, it is a fact that the uncertainty over the appointment of the PCC Chief is causing chaos and confusion in the Congress circles in Gwalior. A major pointer was the absence of any Scindia supporters in the meetings held by Digvijay.

While the supporters of Scindia are insisting that Scindia is the right candidate for the post, the Digvijay Singh followers are resolute that the former two-time Chief Minister is the right choice. However both factions have also said that everyone in the party is entitled to articulate his point of view and that they will abide by the party decision.

Speaking to the media persons, Govind Singh, Minister for Cooperatives in the Madhya Pradesh government opined that the party will benefit in a big way if Scindia is appointed the party chief. He added that the Congress is a democratic party and as such everyone has a say in policy matters. He also said that he will abide by whatever decision the High Command takes on this matter.

Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput said that it was through the combined efforts of Scindia and Kamal Nath that the Congress could come to power in the state. He added that it will be a matter of joy if Scindia is appointed the PCC Chief.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar said that Scindia is the only choice for the post. He added that a delegation of party leaders has already requested the party High Commands to appoint Scindia as the PCC Chief.
