DHE to introduce wi-fi facility in Government colleges

Published on:

Department of Higher Education (DHE) is soon going to initiate several schemes for modernisation of the Government colleges in the district. One of the popular schemes among them is providing wi-fi facility to the students in the colleges.

The college students from the state capital and nearby districts are not very much excited about the launching of these schemes. The reason behind this is said to be poor implementation of earlier schemes and least benefit to the students. Sanjay Malviya, a final year student in Government Hamidia College said that on many occasions fancy declarations were made by DHE for modernisation but ground reality is much different.

Aarti Dongre, a second year science student said that DHE earlier provided internet facilities in the laboratories of all the colleges but in reality no student ever got the opportunity to use them.

Another Government college student on anonymity said that providing internet facility or wi-fi just sound good they do not seem to become reality. Few years back crore of rupees were granted to State capital based colleges to be developed like Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and St Stephen's College New Delhi but even after half decade nothing has changed.

Another aspect in this concern is that many colleges in the State even lack basic amenities like fan, light, benches, tables, blackboard etc still the DHE is launching advanced schemes which will only benefit students from cities and well-to-do families. DHE did not even check the ground reality and real demands of the students and teachers before launching such schemes.

Dinesh Tomar, B.com first year student of Government college Betul, said that there is no doubt if wi-fi facility is    provided properly then it will benefit students but still that will be only to limited students who own gadgets with wi-fi utility.

Reaction of students is a blow to the ambitious modernisation schemes of DHE but the silver lining is that DHE has succeeded in implementing several programmes like online admission system.
