Department of Higher Education (DHE) is not taking interest in the fulfillment of the announcement made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for constructing a new block in the Government Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya (MVM) campus.

At the golden jubilee alumni meet of MVM on November 6, 2011, the Chief Minister had announced to construct a new administrative block in the college for providing more classrooms to the faculty members. However, in past 20 months, the Higher Education Department failed in allotting the funds for the same.

Finance Committee (construction branch) of Department of Higher Education (DHE) OSD AC Agarwal told The Pioneer that the DHE has presented the proposal of new building in finance committee meeting but due to some issues, budget has not been approved.

A proposal of Swarnjayanti block was prepared, according to which a new building will be constructed in front of the present administrative

block. The administrative departments like fees counter, semester cell, registrar office, principal office etc would be shifted to the new building while the present offices will be made classrooms.

Chouhan had declared a Budget of Rs1.82 crore for the project but till now Budget has not been sanctioned due to which work has not been started yet. During the alumni meet, he also said that discussions will be carried out for establishing hostels for the college as three of the Government MVM hostels had been transformed into three separate colleges — State law College, Benazir Science and Commerce College and Government Naveen Arts and Commerce College.

College administration has been demanding a separate administrative block for the college as the number of students and courses have increased but infrastructure is not sufficient according to the need. A number of courses have increased to double in last five years with increase in subject combinations.

Government MVM principal Abha Gargav said that college is waiting for the budget allotment, after which the construction work would be started.
