Very few could muster courage to take initiatives to perform beyond their confined limits and one such example was set by Superintendent of Police of Dhar, Rajesh Hingankar, who has introduced a new concept of ‘Moving police station’. With this concept, he has succeeded in solving more than 3,000 cases by negotiation in Dhar and Katni districts.
The term ‘Chalit Thana (moving police station) was coined by Hingankar when he was earlier posted in Katni district. However, Director General of Police (DGP) Surendra Sinh remained unaware of this initiative, when The Pioneer contacted him regarding this. later, after discussing the matter with the SP, Sinh stated that the efforts of the police officer are good, as it is being done in the interest of the common people. He informed that instead of people coming to the police station, in this concept, the police reach the villagers.
Explaining about the initiative, Superintendent of Police Dhar Rajesh Hingankar told that Chalit Thana was organised with the aim to solve pending cases, which were not of serious nature and could be solved with intervention of police.
In Katni district, around 480 villages are covered in which 93 moving police stations functioned and 3,000 complaints were solved in his tenure of two-and-a-half year during his stint at Katni. Several issues like obstructing way of adjoining farms, reproduction house of cattle at Girls School premises, liquor shops near residential and school premises and problems created by money lenders.
Officers from administration are involved in solving issues in which intervention of administration is required. Providing details about the organising of the Chalit Thana, he said that around 2-3 days before the chalit thana pamphlets are distributed in the area, which is based on the number of cases and those with the lodged complaints are requested through pamphlets to attend chalit thana with their complaints.
People come with very petty issues, which arise due to their personal problems and ego, but after they visit chalit thana and are settled by intervention of police. Hingankar claimed that the around Rs50-Rs60 lakh of the complainants were saved in solving cases.
After taking charge of Dhar, six moving police stations were organised in the area, which has around 25-30 villages. 115 complaints were solved.
