According to the figures Rural areas are more prone in road accidents which is due to violation of traffic rules and it has to be dealt with seriousness said PTRI Special Director General of Police Shri Purushottam Sharma while issuing orders for strict action of errant drivers flouting traffic rules.

The statistics reveal a grim situation in rural areas as compared with the urban areas. In the  year 2018 road accidents which occurred in Madhya Pradesh were 19 percent on National Highways, 27 percent on highways and 54 percent on other roads. In this way, the number of deaths in these accidents is 24 percent but 30 percent of casualties occur on State Highways and 46 percent have occurred on other routes. According to statistics, due to the high number of deaths in rural areas, it seems necessary to improve the situation by paying more attention.

The highest number of accidents in the rural areas due to the fact that in most of the rural areas  people are not aware of traffic rules, vehicles are driven without licenses should be made and in rural areas vehicle owners, drivers, operators and witnessed overloading and to  some extent negligence of transport department and police department is reason behind the rampant negligence in rural areas.

The State has a target of 50 percent reduction in accidents. According to the statistics, the accidents happen in most of the 17 to 40 years of age. Special DG Sharma instructed all police superintendents including the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Bhopal,  Indore , Madhya Pradesh to run the traffic system in the rural areas smoothly.
