The festival of Eid-ul-Azha (Festival of sacrifice), would be celebrated in the country on Tuesday. But, surprisingly buying a buffalo, goat or a sheep in the State capital for the Muslims this year is almost at par with the prices of the animals that were last year.

Id-ul-Azha is a festival that is celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety in India and the world. Muslims wear new clothes and attend an open-air prayer meeting during Eid-ul-Azha. They may sacrifice a sheep or goat and share the meat with family members, neighbours and the poor. Muslims feel that they have a duty to ensure that all Muslims can enjoy a meat based meal during this holiday.

Buying cattle heard of the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Azha scheduled to be celebrated on Tuesday, September 12 is surprisingly not a costly affair as expected.

Traders from far flung have brought a variety of goats and sheeps to various cattle markets of State capital likewise a good number of buffaloes have been brought to the weekly cattle market like the previous years.

Buffaloes this time are costing around `15,000 plus, almost the same to last year’s prices while the prices of goats are also affordable. The price of sheep is no exception and they are too are not priced high this year and are available almost the same range of last year.

Nazar Ahmed Khan, a goat seller, claims he owns the original breed of the Khassi Goat and he has fixed an affordable price for it. “This is a Khassi breed of goat which is found in Agra. I have owned this goat for ten months. It weighs 35-40 kilograms. I have kept the offer price at one lakh rupees,” said Khan.

The festival remembers Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his own son when God ordered him to. Muslims all over the world sacrifice a sheep or a goat as a reminder of that event.
