Four persons, including three police personnel, were injured in an incident of stone-pelting by the demonstrators and cane-charging by police, in front of Gandhi Nagar police station.
Notably, 35-year-old woman Indra Bai had committed suicide by self-immolation on November 17
allegedly for being harassed by two police constable of Gandhi Nagar police station. While undergoing treatment, the woman died on Sunday.
On Monday, demanding action against the accused police constables, victim’s family members reached the police station and started demonstrating by keeping body of the deceased. Sensing the situation, Aam Admi Party (AAP) activists had also gathered the site of demonstration.
Police used tear gas to disperse the violent mob which staged protest after the death of Indra Bai at Gandhi Nagar after being allegedly harassed by two police personnel for extorting money.
The police used mild use of force after the AAP party activists and family members resorted to stone pelting targeting the police personnel and Gandhi Nagar police station.
SP Bhopal (North) Hemant Chouhan said that the protest was peaceful but state convener of AAP party Alok Agrawal incited the family members and protestors and which turned the protest violent.
SP Chouhan said that in her Dying Declaration (DD) the deceased has stated that she sustained burn injuries while burning garbage.
Alok Agrawal and his supporters have been booked for knowingly assembly of persons likely to cause a disturbance of the public peace and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, Chouhan added.
He said that the two police personnel have been sent to police lines and enquiry would be conducted against the two police personnel and in case if they are found guilty action would be taken against the two police personnel.
On the assurance by Chouhan, the agitating family members agreed and later in the evening performed last rites of the body.
The deceased Indra Bai was admitted at Hamidia hospital with severe burn injuries on November 17 and later she died during treatment late in the night on Sunday.
After the deaths family members alleged that she committed suicide due to harassment by two police personnel.
The body was sent for the post mortem and a case under section 174 of the CrPC was registered by the police.
