The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday witnessed a ruckus-like situation over the demand for the removal of the Additional Superintendent of Police in Agar Malwa district in connection with the recent tension in Susner.
Replying to a calling attention notice by Murlidhar Patidar (ruling Bharatiya Janata Party), Home Minister Babulal Gaur admitted that Imran lala stabbed and injured Narayan Singh on June 22.
He said that villagers chased the accused and pelted stones on shops following which shops were shut down. Fifteen people, including Narayan Singh, were injured in the incident.
later, an incident of violence and arson took place in Susner on June 30. Prior to the incident police had received an information that some men had gathered at Deoharia village and left for Susner town. A police team was dispatched to Susner to tackle the situation.
However, since the road leading to Susner was blocked at a considerable distance, the mob broke into groups and reached Susner on foot traversing through farms. Gaur said some shops were set on fire by the culprits. The blaze later spread to other shops gutting 22 shops.
He said police arrested 11 people from the spot while 16 others were held later. He denied that any innocent person was incarcerated in this connection. He rejected the demand for removing the Addl SP stating that police had done commendable job in this connection.
However, Patidar claimed that members of a particular community were being targeted and arrested by police. He demanded that the Addl SP be removed from the post.
When several other members belonging to both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress voiced concerns over the police action and supported the demand, the Home Minister said that the matter would be inquired into by a senior official from the police headquarters.
Subsequent to the reply, the Speaker carried on with the next item listed on the agenda. The members continued to reiterate their demand even as Gaur left the House.
