Decades old school in mess, facing apathy of Govt

The PS (Prathmik Shala), Chhawani in Shahpura locality of the State capital is facing apathy of the government authorities. The decades old school is in a shambles.

Surprisingly, District Project Coordinator (DPC) RK Pandey, working under District Education Office, declined to accept that the school is facing any problem. However, regarding the leakage problem, he has submitted a proposal of repairing in 89 schools, but that is pending, he added.

In this school of five rooms there are around 200 students enrolled. There are many problems in the school like unavailability of drinking water, absence of toilet facility for girls, unhygienic atmosphere, water leakage from roof during rains etc.

Besides, for want of a watchman, the local hooligans move around and reach the compound.

Principal of the school RN Thakur said, “They consume alcohol here in the school campus, which is open till now. A boundary wall is being constructed at the campus, but due to rains, the work is being delayed. In such a situation, the miscreants destroy the washbasins, water tanks, taps, gates and other properties of the school.”

The principal lamented that in want of a sweeper, it has become problematic for the students to remain in the school for five hours each day. It is the responsibility of the School Education department, but despite having sent several reminders regarding problems of the school, but to no avail.

He informed that there is only one toilet, which has never been cleaned and thus even the male students have stopped using it.

Children are forced to go into the nearby fields to attend nature’s call.

Ironically, the principal has reported the matters to the local corporator only. Even, regarding the nuisance being created by the locals, the principal has never approached police.

SHO of Shahpura police station Pragya Namdev told ‘The Pioneer’ that he has not received any written or oral complaint in this regard.

The other problems the school is facing are- the cook appointed for midday meals could not get salary for past eight months and the school compound is full of debris spread all around.

Moreover, the residents of this area throw the garbage of their houses in the school compound.
