As many as half a dozen armed miscreants barged into the house of an executive engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) at Kolar and fled away with gold ornaments and valuables worth lakhs of rupees late on Thursday night.
The police claimed that there were just four miscreants and hence, they had registered a case of burglary. According to police, four unidentified miscreants took gold ornaments and valuables from Anil Kumar Gaud's house at Krishna Society in Yashoda Vihar. The statement of the police is at variance with the version of the complainant, who said the incident took place around 3 am when Gaud and his family were asleep.
His wife woke up after hearing some noise in her room and was shocked to find around 6 armed men in her house who demanded the keys of the locker. By then Gaud too had woken up. The armed miscreants threatened him also. They took him to the almirah and forced him to open it. When the almirah was opened, the miscreants collected the gold ornaments weighing 60 gm, Rs 15,000 cash and a mobile phone.
The victim has claimed that the miscreants were present in the house for around 1 hour after which they left the house. The police were informed and on receiving the information a police team rushed to the spot and subsequently police check posts were alerted about the incident and the area was cordoned off but the miscreants managed to escape. The City Superintendent of Police, Habibganj, Jayant Singh Rathod denied it was a dacoity. It was burglary, he said. The police have registered a case under sections 457 and 380 of the IPC and have started investigations.
