CPM urges EC to keep RSS men away from poll duty

Communist Party of India –Marxist (CPI-M) requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to keep away from election work those officials, who are inclined towards Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideology.

A delegation of the CPI(M) led by its State secretary Badal Saroj called on the ECI here on Monday and requested to take some steps — including to stay away those employees and officials of the State Government who are associated with the RSS for ensuring free and fair elections in Madhya Pradesh.

Saroj brought into the notice of the ECI that Madhya Pradesh is the exceptional State that has allowed its employees and officers to join RSS and that MP is the only State that has done so. “This is an exceptional fact that RSS is a political organisation. The ruling BJP in the State is also controlled by this organisation and it is almost published daily in media that RSS has appointed its lifetime members in all the Assembly constituencies and the election campaigning of BJP is in the hands of these RSS workers.

BJP and RSS have on many occasions accepted that the appointment of organisational secretaries in BJP is done by the RSS. In these circumstances it is clear that those employees and officers who are associated with the RSS would become victim of double commitment and would therefore not able to execute their duties impartially,” Saroj added.

Saroj further said that it would also be inappropriate, illogical and unconstitutional for the election process that persons affiliated with some political outfit should be posted in the election work. Hence, the ECI should demand list of such officials and employees who are associated with the RSS and they should be stayed away from election process, he added.
